What is design without designing for the future of humanity?
When a child suffers from hearing loss, it impacts their ability to develop the language and social skills that help children succeed in school and beyond. Although cochlear processor technology has been beneficial, the everyday technology can be difficult for families to navigate at times. Busy Bee aims to make troubleshooting seamless and connectivity a breeze all in one app.
To understand how an app could be beneficial for children with cochlear implants, there were many hours spent interviewing family members and desktop research. Here is the interview data used to help develop Busy Bee.
Data Research
From the interview and research data collected, father and grandmother personas were built to get a better understanding of the ideal person Busy Bee would benefit.
Family Member Persona’s
After researching the issues at hand and building family member personas, one problem seemed to be more prevalent than others, troubleshooting the “ears” when a technical issues occurs. With multiple functioning parts, figuring out which one is causing the issues can be a tedious process.
Troubleshooting Flow Chart
This wireframe shows the layout of the user flow for troubleshooting malfunctions to the cochlear processors. The idea behind the flow is to give family members who may not be as “tech savvy” an opportunity to fix typical malfunctions if they are alone with the child.
Malfunction Wireframe
This wireframe shows the layout of the user flow for connecting the cochlear processors to bluetooth devices. The current technology is outdated and requires the use of a second app that is only used to connect and disconnect via bluetooth. Having one app will make transition from home to school or the movies seamless.
Bluetooth Wireframe
This is the overall wireframe layout of the Busy Bee app. Although the only flows complete at this time are troubleshooting malfunctions and bluetooth connectivity, this wireframe shows other areas where Busy Bee could be beneficial in the future.
